FieldEdge alternatives for shops not yet running a fleet.

FieldEdge is built for multi-truck HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors, with flat-rate pricing and service agreements at its core. If you're a one or two-truck shop, or you want to see a price before a demo, here's what else fits the same trades.

Who FieldEdge is for, and how you get a price

FieldEdge sells to small and mid-market multi-truck HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors. Its entry plan, Select, covers dispatching, booking and scheduling, basic agreements and quotes, customer management, and a pricebook with flat rate. Its flat-rate product (formerly Coolfront) is a big part of the pitch. The idea of flat rate is that techs present set prices at the kitchen table instead of building a time-and-material number on the spot.

To find out what it costs, you book a demo. FieldEdge says it has three plans and that pricing varies by team size and add-ons, set with its product experts. That's normal for software aimed at multi-truck shops, but it means a smaller contractor can't compare it against anything until after a sales conversation.

If you live by a flat-rate book and run several trucks, FieldEdge may be exactly right. If you're earlier than that, look at the list below. Two-way comparison: Redline vs FieldEdge.

Your standard prices, remembered instead of a price book

Our diagnostic is $129 and the Comfort Club tune-up is $159 a visit, two visits a year.

Remembered. I'll use $129 for diagnostics and $159 per Comfort Club visit on quotes and invoices.

Quote Alvarez: diagnostic, run capacitor, and sign him up for Comfort Club.
Redline

Quote for Hector Alvarez is ready to review: diagnostic $129, run capacitor replaced $185, Comfort Club first visit $159. Total $473. Want the next tune-up booked for spring?

What an HVAC or plumbing shop should know

Redline doesn't

  • Keep a flat-rate price book or parts inventory
  • Bill service agreements every month on its own
  • Track trucks by GPS
  • Sync with QuickBooks (it exports a QuickBooks-format CSV)

Redline does

  • Quote repairs and changeouts, with good, better and best options in the quote editor (Solo and up)
  • Schedule spring and fall tune-ups as a repeating series
  • Dispatch no-heat and no-cool calls from a board (Team and up)
  • Invoice from the truck with a card pay link (Solo and up)

Questions contractors ask

How much does FieldEdge cost?

FieldEdge doesn't publish prices. It says it has three plans and that pricing depends on team size and add-ons, worked out in a demo.

Can Redline replace a flat-rate price book?

No. It remembers prices you tell it (a diagnostic fee, a tune-up price, your trip charge) and uses them when drafting, but it isn't a searchable book of tasks with set prices. If your techs present from a flat-rate book, stay with a tool that has one.

How do maintenance agreements work in Redline?

Book the visits as a repeating series, every 6 months for example, and save it as a preset. Billing is manual: invoice each visit or the agreement. See HVAC maintenance agreements.
