Redline vs FieldEdge: flat rate, or free to start.

Redline is free to start: the chat, contacts, pipeline and calendar for $0, with every paid plan priced on the pricing page. FieldEdge is built for multi-truck HVAC, plumbing and electrical shops, with a flat-rate pricebook and pricing set through a demo.

The short version

Redline fits the owner-operator and the shop with a few trucks. You run it by message: book the tune-up, quote the changeout, assign the no-cool call. Free covers one person with no end date. Solo at $29 a month adds invoices and card pay links, Team at $129 adds 3 seats and the dispatch board, and Team+ at $299 covers 10 seats.

FieldEdge is field service management software with dispatch, service agreements, a flat-rate pricebook and accounting integration, aimed at small and mid-market multi-truck HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors. Its flat-rate tool, FieldEdge Flat Rate, was formerly Coolfront. Its entry plan, Select, includes dispatching, booking and scheduling, basic agreements and quotes, customer management and the pricebook.

FieldEdge doesn't publish prices. It offers three plans, and pricing depends on team size and add-ons, set during a demo with its product team.

Who should pick which

Pick FieldEdge if

  • Your techs present flat-rate options from a pricebook at the kitchen table
  • Service agreements are a big book of business you manage as agreements
  • You run multiple trucks with an office dispatching them
  • You need your field software tied into your accounting system

Pick Redline if

  • You're one to a few trucks and price jobs yourself
  • You'd rather read a price than sit through a demo
  • You want changeout quotes drafted from a photo of the data plate
  • You want tune-ups booked as repeating visits for free
  • You want one morning push telling you the most important thing to do first (iPhone)

Questions contractors ask

Can I run service agreements in Redline?

You can schedule them: book a spring and fall tune-up as a series every 6 months and save it as a preset like "Comfort plan". Redline doesn't track agreements as contracts or bill them automatically. See HVAC maintenance agreements.

Does Redline have flat-rate pricing?

No pricebook. Redline remembers prices you tell it, like your diagnostic fee or your standard tune-up, and reuses them. If your techs sell from a full flat-rate pricebook, FieldEdge is built for that.

What's the morning push?

Once a day, at an hour you pick between 5 and 11am, the iPhone app sends the single most important thing to do first: a callback, an overdue invoice, an empty afternoon. See morning brief.
