Rain delay emails, sent before they take the day off.
Weather calls get made early. Send the email before the customer has taken the morning off, give them a new date, and tell them what happens to the shingles already sitting in the driveway.
Weather delay
Send the evening before, or by 7am at the latest.
Subject: Weather delay: [Job type] moved to [New date]
Hi [Customer first name],
With [the weather, e.g. steady rain forecast through Thursday], we can't [what can't happen in the wet, e.g. tear off your roof, pour the footings, or paint the trim] without risking the work. We're moving your start to [New date], same arrival time of [Time].
[What happens to materials on site, e.g. The shingles and the dumpster in your driveway will stay put, and the shingles are covered.] If you need the driveway before then, call me and we'll move them.
If [New date] doesn't work for you, reply with a day that does and I'll do my best to fit it.
Sorry for the shuffle. We'd rather wait a day than do it twice.

Reschedule on our side
For when the delay is yours: a job ran long, a part didn't show, a tech is out.
Subject: Need to move your [visit type] on [Original date]
Hi [Customer first name],
I need to move your [visit type] from [Original date]. [Short, honest reason, e.g. The job ahead of you ran a day long, or the part we ordered arrives on [Date].]
I can do [Option 1] or [Option 2]. Reply with the one you prefer and I'll lock it in.
Sorry for the change, and thanks for bearing with us.

What to change
- Say what can't happen in the wet, in plain words. "Due to weather" on a cloudy morning sounds like an excuse
- Mention anything already on site: dumpsters, pallets, scaffolding, a tarp. That's what they'll worry about
- On a multi-day job, say whether the whole schedule slides or just one day
- Give a date, or two dates to choose from. "We'll be in touch" means another call for them to chase
- If it's your delay, give the real reason in one line. People forgive a part that didn't show
A rainout at 6:15am
Rain most of tomorrow, clearing by Thursday afternoon. Friday looks dry.
Moved Dan Sullivan's tear-off to Friday at 7am.
Subject: Weather delay: your roof moves to Friday
Hi Dan, with rain most of tomorrow, we can't tear off your roof without leaving it open to the weather. We're moving your start to Friday, same 7am arrival. The shingles and the dumpster in your driveway stay put, and the shingles are covered. If Friday doesn't work, reply with a day that does.
Thanks, Mike

The calendar moves right away. The email waits for your OK, goes from your Gmail, and Redline never texts.
The calendar moves now. The customer hears it from you.
When you tell Redline to push a visit, the calendar changes right away, and on Team plans so does the tech's phone. The customer hears nothing until you send the email. Redline doesn't text, doesn't send automatic notices, and never emails a customer without your approval. The email goes from your own Gmail and is logged on their file, so the next person who answers their call can see it.
Redline can check a forecast for you with a web search in the chat, which uses some of your AI usage. It doesn't watch the weather or reschedule anything on its own. After a rainout, ask it to "tighten up my week" and it proposes moves over the next 7 days, fixing overlaps and grouping visits in the same town. Nothing moves until you confirm. See scheduling.
Questions contractors ask
Can Redline text customers about a rain delay?
No. Redline doesn't text. It drafts the email for you to send from your Gmail, and calling is one tap from the customer's file.
Does it reshuffle the rest of my week?
Only when you ask and confirm. Optimize groups visits by town name, not by drive time or a map, so check the order makes sense for your routes.
Can I move a whole series of visits?
Each visit in a repeating series can be moved on its own. Tell Redline which one, or move it on the calendar. See recurring jobs.
Rainout handled before your coffee.
Redline is free to start. Move the visit and draft the email in one message, then send it from your own Gmail.
