Compare

Redline vs Yardbook: two free plans, honestly compared.

If you're searching for free lawn care software, Yardbook's free plan covers more of the job than Redline's: estimates, invoices, card payments and routing, paid for by ads. Redline's Free plan covers the chat, contacts, pipeline, calendar, quotes and a Pro Page that takes quote requests. Invoicing in Redline starts on Solo at $29 a month.

The short version

Redline is a different kind of tool: you run the business by message. "Quote Carla a fall cleanup." "Book the Albrechts' first mow in May." "Who's overdue?" On Free that covers leads, quotes, the calendar and repeating visits, plus a free Pro Page and directory listing where homeowners send quote requests (3 revealed a month on Free, all of them on paid plans). Solo at $29 a month ($23 billed yearly) adds invoices, card pay links on your own Stripe account and overdue flags.

Yardbook is business software for lawn care, landscaping and snow removal, including solo operators. Its free Starter plan is funded by sponsored ads and includes customers, jobs and scheduling, estimates that turn into jobs and invoices, invoicing, routing, expenses, reports, lot measurement from satellite images, employee access, card payments, snow removal and a product catalog. It also tracks chemical applications, and its crew iOS app works offline with routes, time tracking, photos, notes and expenses.

Yardbook's pricing page lists Starter at $0 a month, Business at $34.99 a month and Enterprise at $49.99 a month. Business adds bulk email and text, GPS tracking, automatic invoice reminders, multi-step chemical programs and lead capture, and waives Yardbook's own processing fees. Enterprise adds QuickBooks sync and a branded company portal.

Questions contractors ask

Which free plan does more?

For lawn billing, Yardbook's. Its free plan includes invoicing, card payments and routing, and Redline's Free plan doesn't include invoicing. Redline's Free plan covers the chat, contacts, pipeline, calendar, quotes and a Pro Page. Invoicing starts on Solo at $29 a month, with a 7-day free trial on the web.

Does Redline measure lots or build routes?

No. Redline has no satellite measuring and no map routing. You give it the square footage, and the scheduling assistant groups visits by town name. Optimize proposes moves for the next 7 days to tighten up the week.

Can I bill snow per push in Redline?

On Solo and up, yes: "invoice the Carver lot for 3 pushes at $185" drafts a $555 invoice, one amount with a one-line description, for you to approve. See snow removal invoicing.
