Redline vs Kickserv: a week of small jobs, sorted.

Redline is free to start, with the chat, contacts, pipeline and a calendar that can reshuffle your week, all for $0. Kickserv is field service software for small service businesses with a customer portal, time tracking and QuickBooks sync. Here's the honest split.

The short version

A handyman's week is a dozen small jobs that move around: a part doesn't come in, a customer isn't home, a quick fix turns into a second visit. Redline's calendar can look at the next seven days and propose moves that fix overlaps and put same-town stops together, and you approve them one at a time or all at once. That's on the Free plan. Solo at $29 a month adds invoicing and card pay links.

Kickserv is field service software for small service businesses: handyman and home improvement, cleaning, electrical, landscaping, locksmith, moving and restoration. It covers CRM, estimates with digital signatures, a sales pipeline, one-click and recurring scheduling, invoicing and payments, with mobile schedules, GPS and time tracking in the field and on-site card payments. It syncs with QuickBooks Desktop and Online, and customers get a Customer Center for invoices, payments and service requests.

Kickserv's plans are Flex, Start, Run and Scale, stepping up by number of users. For current prices and trial terms, see Kickserv's pricing page.

The week falls apart on Tuesday

The Lyons storm door is backordered till Friday. Tighten up my week.
Redline

Here's what I'd move:

1. Lyons storm door, Wednesday 9am to Friday 1pm, after the part arrives

2. Baptiste drywall patch, Thursday 3pm to Wednesday 9am, into the open slot

3. Feeney faucet swap, Friday 8am to Wednesday 11am, same town as Baptiste

Apply all three?

Apply 1 and 2. Feeney wants Friday.
Redline

Done. Lyons is Friday at 1pm and Baptiste is Wednesday at 9am. Feeney stays Friday at 8am.

Optimize never moves anything until you say so. It groups by town name, not by map.

Who should pick which

Pick Kickserv if

  • You want customers logging in to see invoices and request service
  • You pay helpers by the hour and need their time tracked
  • You want customers signing estimates digitally
  • You use QuickBooks Desktop
  • You want to see where your crew is on GPS

Pick Redline if

  • Your week reshuffles every day and you want it fixed by one message
  • You want the calendar, contacts and pipeline at $0
  • You'd rather send one message than fill in a form on a ladder
  • Your helper only needs their day and a checklist, never the prices (Team)
  • You want Redline to remember your standard prices once you mention them

Questions contractors ask

Does Redline track my helpers' hours?

No. Redline has no time tracking or timesheets yet. On Team and up, techs tap Idle, En route or On job so you can see where each one is in their day, but nothing is clocked.

Can a customer see their invoices in a portal?

No. Each Redline invoice has its own pay link the customer opens in any browser; there's no customer login. If a portal matters, Kickserv has one.

Does Redline remember what I charge?

Yes. Mention it once ("my trip charge is $75", "I do faucet swaps for $185 plus parts") and Redline saves it and uses it in later quotes and invoices. You can see and edit everything it remembers in Settings. See memory.
