Redline vs Buildertrend: small jobs, no demo.

Buildertrend is built for custom home builders and remodelers running multi-month projects, with budgets, selections and a client portal. Redline is for the contractor whose jobs last days: you sign up, start on the Free plan for $0 and quote your next deck repair by message. If you build houses, this isn't a close call, and Buildertrend is the better fit.

The short version

If you looked at Buildertrend and found a tool sized for someone else, Redline is sized for one truck to a small crew. Free covers the chat, contacts, pipeline, calendar and quotes, including itemized quotes built from a site photo. Solo at $29 a month adds invoices, deposits, card pay links and the Quote composer for good, better and best options. Team adds a crew board when you hire.

Buildertrend is a construction management platform for established custom and semi-custom home builders, remodelers, and specialty contractors such as outdoor living and kitchen and bath. It handles project scheduling, estimating, construction proposals, change orders, job costing, budgets, invoices and profit reporting, and gives clients a portal where they see schedules, budgets, selections and daily progress. It has iOS and Android apps.

Buildertrend doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page says pricing is personalized by builder type, annual revenue and needs, and that every plan includes the full feature set. It offers personalized demos rather than a self-serve trial.

Questions contractors ask

Is Redline a smaller Buildertrend?

No. Redline has no budgets, selections, client portal, change orders or procurement. It covers the leads, quotes, calendar, invoices and crew board for shorter jobs, run by chat. If those project tools are what you need, Redline won't replace them.

What does Buildertrend cost?

Buildertrend doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page says it personalizes pricing by builder type, annual revenue and needs, and it offers demos. Redline's prices are on the pricing page: Free at $0, Solo at $29, Team at $129, Team+ at $299 a month.

Can Redline handle a longer remodel?

As one job, yes: notes and photos on the job, visits on the calendar, a deposit up front and the balance at the end (invoicing on Solo). There's no budget tracking against actuals beyond expenses and profit per job after materials, and no portal for the client.
