See what each job actually made.
Revenue is easy to see. What you kept after the lumber, the dump fee and the fuel is not. Redline files each receipt against the job it belongs to, so Reports can show profit per job after materials, plus what you collected and what's still booked but not banked.
The numbers, without opening a spreadsheet
$18,450 collected this month after refunds, $4,200 of it this week. $3,100 is overdue, and you've logged $5,870 in expenses so far.
Money questions in chat need Solo or higher, where invoices and expenses live.
From receipt to report
Log the receipt
In Money, open Expenses and enter the vendor and amount, add a photo of the receipt if you want one on file, and pick a category: materials, fuel, equipment or other.
File it against the job
Pick the job it belongs to, so the $412 at the lumber yard counts against the Pratt deck, not the month in general.
Let the crew help
On Team and up, techs snap receipts from their own app and they're filed the same way. See crew dispatch.
Read the report
Reports shows profit, collected, spent, and booked but not banked for the month, the quarter or the year to date, with profit per job underneath.
What profit per job looks like
An example month for a small deck and fence outfit. Profit here is the invoice total minus materials filed against the job.
| Job | Invoiced | Materials filed | Profit after materials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pratt deck, 16 x 20 composite | $18,600 | $9,240 | $9,360 |
| Hollis fence, 140 ft cedar | $7,980 | $3,710 | $4,270 |
| Ames stair rebuild | $2,450 | $640 | $1,810 |
Example figures only. Labor isn't in Redline's math yet, so subtract your crew's hours yourself.
How Money is laid out
Overview
Collected, outstanding, overdue, payouts status, jobs Ready to bill and invoices being chased.
Invoices
Not billed, Sent, Overdue and Paid, plus deposits. See invoicing.
Expenses
Every receipt by vendor, amount, category and job. Amounts are typed in; Redline doesn't read them off the photo.
Reports
Profit, collected, spent and booked not banked, for the month, quarter or year to date, plus profit per job.
Exports for your accountant
"Export for QuickBooks" downloads a CSV file in QuickBooks format, and there's a plain CSV too. It's a file you hand over, not a live connection.
Check your pricing
If a job type keeps coming in thin, run it through the job profit calculator or the markup vs margin calculator before the next quote.

Questions contractors ask
Which plan includes expenses and reports?
Solo and up, at $29 a month. They live in the Money tab with invoicing. Solo has a 7-day free trial on the web. See pricing.
Is profit per job only on the top plan?
No. Every plan with Money, starting at Solo, shows profit per job after materials.
Does it replace my bookkeeper?
No. Redline tracks job money: what you billed, collected and spent on each job. Your bookkeeper gets the CSV export for the books.
Can I get all my data out?
Yes. Money exports are in Reports. Contacts, jobs, activity and the calendar export as a JSON file from Settings, under Data and privacy.
